HR System UI Design
This project focuses on redesigning the user interface of OrangeHRM, a comprehensive HR management system used to manage employees, attendance, leave, and performance across organizations. The goal was to improve usability, reduce operational friction, and support faster decision-making for HR teams by prioritizing clarity, consistency, and task efficiency across complex workflows.

Challenge
OrangeHRM is a feature-rich HR system, but its complexity creates usability challenges for daily users such as HR managers, administrators, and employees. The main challenge was to simplify dense information, reduce cognitive load, and improve task completion speed without removing critical functionality.
From the outset, I had to prioritize high-impact workflows—such as leave management, employee records, and attendance tracking—over less frequently used features. Constraints included working within an existing system structure, maintaining familiarity for current users, and ensuring scalability for organizations of different sizes. To make informed design decisions, I conducted UI benchmarking of existing HR systems, analyzed common HR user pain points, and mapped key user journeys. This research guided decisions around layout hierarchy, navigation depth, and component reuse, ensuring that design changes solved real usability issues rather than introducing unnecessary visual changes.
Solution
The solution focused on creating a clean, role-driven interface that supports both administrative and employee-level tasks with minimal friction. Based on research findings, I introduced clearer visual hierarchy, consistent spacing, and modular UI components to make complex data easier to scan and understand.
Key decisions included reorganizing dashboards to surface priority actions first, simplifying forms to reduce input fatigue, and standardizing components across modules to improve learnability. Constraints around system flexibility were addressed by designing reusable patterns that could scale across future HR features without breaking consistency. The final UI improves efficiency, reduces error rates in common tasks, and provides a more intuitive experience for both new and existing users—demonstrating how research-driven prioritization and constraint-aware decision-making can significantly enhance enterprise software usability.
